IIRQ 2016 General Orientation Ceremony- September 20, 2016.
The 2016 IIRQ General Orientation Ceremony, held at the University of Technology, Jamaica Alfred Sangster Auditorium saw a turnout of over 150 newly accepted students. We commenced with our praise and worship segment led by none other than our Coordinator Mrs. Marie Waite followed by, the Registrar Mrs. Thelma Oliver who introduced the institution’s staff members and special guests. Our principal Prof. Gossett Oliver then took the floor to welcome our students, he opened with the institution’s mission and vision statement and proceeded to emphasize the institute’s mantra “Believe You Can”, his motivational address to the students encouraged them to be ambitious and committed to achieving educational success.
Mrs. Betty- Ann Blaine, well- known City & Guilds representative, took the floor shortly after. Her speech also sought to aspire the students to be self- motivated, determined to attain their goals in life and not to take opportunities for granted. She also touched on the current labour market and its demand for vocational and technical training across the world and continued to implore that the students do not squander away opportunities.
Ms. Shanice Coburn (2nd Year Nursing Assistant CAP Student) and Mr. John Ellis (Past CAP Engineering Student) then presented their testimonials on their experiences whilst attending the institution which highlighted positive strives the institute has been making to empower youths through vocational training and education. Mrs. Waite then briefed the students on the rules and regulations of the school. In closing Mrs. Falana Bassant, Assistant Coordinator, then announced the dates for the various course orientations.
